JULY 31, 2002 Fitness Brochures Fitting Fitness In If you think you have to exercise for hours on end, sweating profusely, to receive a health benefit, check out the booklet "Fitting Fitness In, Even When You're Pressed for Time." It shows you how to weave exercise into a busy schedule and gradually build up to 30 minutes of activity on most days. The booklet, developed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Cattleman's Beef Association and Shape Up America!, provides helpful physical activity and nutrition tips. The key, says former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop, is to think of small ways to get the body moving, which add up to big dividends in terms of better health. "Consider fitting in three 10-minute walks over the day or shooting hoops while listening to the game on the radio," suggests former ACSM President Steven N. Blair, P.E.D. The colorful, easy-to-follow booklet includes valuable information about the top reasons to get active, how to get started with everyday activities, tips for workday workouts, building muscle endurance, stretching, working out on the road, and healthful eating habits.
To receive a free copy, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to ACSM, c/o Fitting Fitness In, P.O. Box 1440, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1440. |
